Fostering resilience in children, teens and adults

I am a board-certified, clinical psychologist who practices in the Austin area. I provide tele-based therapy to California, Florida, and Texas residents and clients in states with enacted PSYPACT legislation. In my practice, I work with adults on parenting issues, work-related stress, relationship issues, health concerns, trauma, depression, anxiety and other areas of concern that create disharmony and impede resilient responding to daily life challenges.

I also work with young children, school-aged children and teenagers to address trauma, emotional issues and behavioral struggles. Over the course of my career, I have worked with young children whose anger and impulse control issues affect their relationships and academic performance, teenagers with suicidal ideation and self-image issues, and adults with work stress or relationship trauma. I work collaboratively with all clients to identify goals, cope with emotional pain, and seek solutions.

I have an undergraduate degree in psychology from Emory University, a master’s degree in psychology from the University of North Texas and a doctorate in clinical psychology from the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center. I completed postdoctoral fellowships in Child Abuse & Trauma (San Fernando Child Guidance Center, 2001) and Behavioral Science/Family Systems Education (Society of Teachers of Family Medicine, 2011). I am board-certified with the American Board of Professional Psychology and credentialed with the National Register of Health Service Psychologists. I have worked in hospitals, emergency rooms, shelters, community mental health centers, primary care clinics, schools and taught psychology courses to undergraduate and graduate students.

Personally, I am a mom, a daughter, a sister, a friend, a teacher, a therapist, a writer and a lifelong learner. I understand how hard it is to carry many roles and to find balance while holding many responsibilities. In my free time, I enjoy traveling, reading, writing, exploring new places with my twin sons, and taking walks with our two rescue dogs Maui and Einstein.

My therapy style with adult clients is best described as client-centered, collaborative, and tailored to a person’s unique goals. I have training in dynamic theory, cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), trauma-informed cognitive behavioral therapy, family systems, interpersonal processing and mindful self-compassion. My interventions are a combination of these theories and are based on finding solutions to a client’s goals and areas of struggle.

Dr. Ayres has the rare combination of precision, insight, experience and most importantly, empathy. She is there with you, really present. In this world of distraction, chaos and disconnection by being technologically connected, Dr. Ayres seems to reverse it all, instantly. Her office is a safe place, a breath of fresh air and a respite that slows time and promotes healing. Guided gently by her presence and expertise, patients emerge and foster a long-term relationship that goes beyond a clinical one. She really cares about her patients in a most authentic way. If you are able to see Dr. Ayres, I am most confident the hardest part will be letting her go.
