What is Mindful Self Compassion?

Mindful Self-Compassion (MSC) is an empirically-supported, eight-week program that promotes resilience, reduces stress, encourages a growth mindset about mistakes and areas of struggle, and decreases critical self-talk. It is based on the research and clinical practice of Kristin Neff, Ph.D. and Chris Germer, Ph.D. and encourages course participants to respond to life’s challenges with compassion for self and others, curiosity, and understanding. Jennifer teaches her MSC classes from the perspective of a therapist and a working parent who understands how difficult it is to manage stress in the face of multiple responsibilities and time demands. Her classes are known for her use of storytelling and humor to address challenging topics and promote self-reflection.

MSC Testimonials

I completed one of Jennifer’s Mindful Self-Compassion Course of study during a pandemic year, and my first year in a new job. The class was integral to my emotional wellbeing and the protection of my own band-width during trying times. It didn't feel like lessons or teachings - rather a release and a growth.

I happened upon an online post about Dr. Ayres’ Mindful Self Compassion course at a much needed time and I’m grateful for the happy accident! While I was very interested in the course, I was a bit uncertain as to whether or not it would be right for me. I was immediately put at ease by Dr. Ayres’ calm and insightful approach. She has a strong knowledge of the material and her genuine belief in MSC practices helped to make each class a joy. I’ll say it again…grateful for the happy accident!
